Write the Vision: Diabetic Retinopathy

♪ ♪ Anyone who has
diabetes is at a higher risk for diabetic retinopathy. In the early stages,
there may not be any signs or symptoms of
diabetic retinopathy. Again, that’s why
it’s very, very important for a person who
is at higher risk, who has diabetes, for example, to have an annual
comprehensive dilated eye exam. Unfortunately, about half of
the people with diabetes do not get an annual
comprehensive dilated eye exam, placing them at great
risk for vision loss. Once a person has
diabetic retinopathy, there are very, very
effective treatments today. And the person
should have a conversation with their eye care
professional about the most effective treatment
depending upon their situation.
