Write the Vision: Cataract

♪ ♪ Cataract is a clouding
of the lens inside the eye. The lens allows us to
change our focus from looking at something far
away to something close, very similar to a
lens in a camera. Now, loss of vision
is not necessarily a complication of aging. Cataract is a complication of
aging but loss of sight is not. If you’ve spent a lot
of time, say, at a beach, or if you’re a snow skier
or just out in the sun, you should protect your
eyes against ultraviolet light by wearing glasses, lenses
that will protect the eyes, wearing a hat with a large brim. All these are ways
of protecting the lens from prolonged exposure
to ultraviolet light, which can increase the
risk for cataract development.
