One Year on Earth – Seen From 1 Million Miles
I’m Jay Herman. I’m the EPIC Lead Scientist for the DSCOVR mission. On July 6, 2015, we released this spectacular image of Earth taken by NASA’s EPIC camera. Now, we assembled more than 3,000 images captured by EPIC into a time-lapse sequence that shows a year in the life of our planet. EPIC is an Earth science instrument aboard the DSCOVR satellite, which launched in February 2015. The spacecraft always remains between the sun and the Earth approximately 1 million miles away, at a special gravitational balance point known as Lagrange 1. From this view, EPIC sees the sunrise in the west and the sunset in the east at least 13 times a day. The haze seen around the edges is due to scattering of light by molecules in the atmosphere. Scattering is also what makes the sky appear blue during the day and red at sunset. The colors shown are our best estimate of what a human sitting at the location of EPIC would see. EPIC takes at least one set of images about every two hours. The camera records each set in 10 different wavelengths. At least three separate wavelengths–red, green, and blue–are combined to produce this color view. In March, the moon passed between the Earth and the sun causing a total solar eclipse. During the eclipse, the moon cast its shadow over a portion of the planet. If we slow the video down, we can see the moon’s shadow make an appearance right about now. Although the view from EPIC is only once every two hours, we’re able to track features like the motion of clouds. Around two-thirds of the Earth is covered by clouds. Clouds reflect light from the sun, helping to keep the planet cool. They also trap heat rising from the surface, keeping the planet warm. Changes in cloud cover affect the heat balance and how warm the Earth becomes, which is one of the reasons why we study them. The hourly images of the entire sunlit side of the Earth provided by EPIC will be used to study the daily variations of features over the entire globe helping us to better understand and protect our home planet.

I'm confused, so the satellite was in a stationary orbit, WHILE the earth spun on its axis?….so why is everything around the earth redacted, where is any variation in sun light, why do we see the same luminosity all year?

Seriously, people don't see all the issues with these supposed "photos" of the earth? I bet even NASA says it is a computer generated image. NASA clearly tells us that the satilite collects data and the formulates an image from the data.
So no stars and clouds that repeat the exacts size and shapes all year. Looks like way too much land mass also.
Even for a cartoon this is lame. They need ask Disney to help them make something more realistic.
They give us stuff like this that doesn't even match up with the "facts" concerning the earth they taught us in school and then wonder why we question it.
For as much money as we give NASA they should do a better job faking stuff.

I thought it was supposed to be pear shaped, looks pretty round ball shaped to me. Tell the truth, even NASA does not claim these to be actual photos but computer generated images, correct?

How are they going to put something out there a miilion miles away and keep it there when they can't even keep a signal to my cell phone. People are naive.
Another thing bothering me since we are on the subject, is this whole thing about this being 1million miles away. The moon is a 240 thousand miles away….so …where is the moon in these frames?….they show the shadow of the moon, but the moon should have passed right in front of the satellite at some point?
Another question…..the guy in this video is making this point about this 3 color camera to build the image, but why are they using this type of camera?
That kind is used for objects much farther away than earth and moon, any standard camera would have worked as well?

They recently canceled a flight from Newark to Singapore because of cost, you can look up story, anyway I was looking at the flight path and it goes strait over the North pole IN A STRAIT LINE?….anyway, the flight takes 18 hours from Newark to Singapore and if the earth is rotating to the east then in 18 hours you would almost be back right were you started in Newark?…how can this be?

Neil Degrass Tyson says Earth oblate. However, all the pictures I see of Earth from so-called space do not show an oblate sphere. Answer me this, the so-called famous Blue Marble photo (supposedly a single shot photo) taken from space at a distance of about 18,000 miles from Earth on December 7, 1972 looks practically the same as the photo taken from Nasa's Epic camera almost 1,000,000 miles away on July 20, 2016. They admit to "assembling" the images captured from Epic. Why would they need to assemble the images? Wouldn't the image look much smaller? Like fifty times smaller? It is hard to believe that Nasa took a photo of Earth a million miles away just to zoom in on it and make it look like all other photos taken from space provided by them. Also if you look at Earth photos taken by Nasa from space over the years, the images are never consistent. Has the Earth changed that drastically since Nasa's inception? Furthermore, the year long time lapse video does not even show the moon orbiting the Earth, but somehow captures the moon's shadow during an eclipse.

Remind me again, how you Scientists at NASA, came up with the Idea that the further North or South you go…The Slower the Earth Spins? I mean, if the earth is Solid, why they difference in Speed? If Earth is a Solid Object, which is what we are told, it would stand to reason, it would stand Logically, the further North or South you go, the Faster it would spin, wouldn't it? If it is a Solid Object, it rotates at the same speed.

It's truly amazing to see the amount of brainwashed human beings trying their hardest to show this is somehow faked, some even giving up and saying "it has to" because now matter what they will always refuse to admit this really is what Earth looks like. It is both hilarious and scary to think those belong to the same species as me.
